Château d'Yquem
Sauternes 1er cru supérieur
Yquem is the only wine of Bordeaux to have right
to the mention "1er cru supérieur".
Expensive, Yquem? Its production cost is extremely
high. One hectare gives 833 bottles, 8 ceps give
a bottle, that is to say 1 cep by glass! And manual
harvest is made “grain par grain”!
The proximity of water of the Garonne and Ciron,
the fog of the morning and the early sun of the
afternoon optimize the development of the “pourriture
noble”: the botrytis.
4 years are necessary before to see Yquem coming
on the market.
